Automation Manager - Texas

Position Overview:

We are looking for an experienced automation engineer. The successful candidate should possess excellent automation skills as well as demonstrate leadership in a supervisory role. Thorough understanding of production solutions in upstream oil and gas is a must. This position provides ownership of support for site automation and data collection systems. Partnering with operations, engineering, IT, and maintenance functions will be critical to effectively supporting these site systems. This position requires direct technical support of automation systems and projects. The goal is to ensure automation systems and team are effective and functioning within the limits of budget, time and specifications of the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical mentoring and coaching for the automation staff;

  • Manage the commissioning and qualification process for automation systems as well as develop and ensure compliance with established local quality standards;

  • Develop, maintain, and implement the process automation functional agenda for the site;

  • Ensure function is aligned and driven to meet engineering goals, in partnership with Operations leadership to deliver operational results;

  • Function as system owner for exclusive process automation systems not assigned to other engineering or operations functions;

  • Own and manage site procedures and technical standards for the automation function;

  • Resolve relatively complex problems independently;

  • Provide management support for automation contractor personnel

Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong technical knowledge, analytical expertise and attention to detail;

  • Proven ability to ensure work is accurate, completed timely with controls adequate for safeguarding assets;

  • Strong computer skills, especially in Word, Excel and MS Office software;

  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills;

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities;

  • Outstanding organizational ability with great attention to detail;

  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment, discretion and confidentiality;

  • Position will include some travel;

Education, Experience and Certifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering from a four-year college or university preferably in one these disciplines: Electrical, Chemical, Computer Science or related field, or extensive experience in similar roles:

  • Minimum of 5 years in automation design and implementation experience;

  • Proficiency in programming process automation systems including common PLC and SCADA platforms;

  • Experience with SCADAPack PLC’s and Ignition a plus;
